CTMH August SOTM Blog Hop & Tutorial

By Helen | July 31, 2011

CTMH’s August Stamp of the Month: S1108 Wicked is perfect for all of your Halloween party invitations, decorations and of course for embellishing your scrapbook layouts after the event.

I can see the border used across a page or around the edges.  The hexagon shape – how about used with the puddle pad technique, creating your own patterned paper, or border.  So many possibilities!

One of the GREAT new things CTMH is doing…putting a full-color insert inside the stamp set.  It shows the same artwork from the Idea Book and reminds you to visit the CTMH website for all the instructions for making the projects shown.  How cool!  Here’s what the insert looks like…

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage, sit back and join us on a journey of amazing things you can do with this stamp set. There are over 60 CTMH Consultants joining in on the fun…that’s a LOT of ideas that YOU can take and duplicate with this fun stamp set. If you arrived here from Kathleen’s blog you’re on the right path.

I had these wonderful photos of my niece.  I was inspired by a new workshop kit’s layout to create a scrapbook layout.  This layout features the August Stamp of the Month, the sueding technique and the new Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge (I’m sure you’ll see a lot of projects using this awesome new tool from CTMH).

Materials:

Tutorial follows…

For those that want to skip the tutorial “hop” on over to my friend {Beth} to see what she’s created.

If you get lost along the way…here’s the complete list of all hoppers.

Tutorial

Using the new Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge, designed by CTMH, cut a 10.75″ bracketed square from the Black print paper and a 9″ bracketed square from the Sunset tree print paper.  Tip: I flipped the Sunset tree print paper over and positioned it such that the tree was in the corner that the Cricut would start cutting.  This way, I had the tree on the bracketed shape.

I love that the booklet shows you exactly where the shape is that you’ll be cutting on the key pad.  Look at all these gorgeous shapes.  I think this cartridge is going to live in my Cricut for a while…LOL.

Using the Autumn Terracotta Ink Pad and the direct-to-paper technique, swipe the ink pad across the cardstock in circles.  This is the sueding technique.  Tip: Make sure you go completely off the paper.  I find turning the paper and going over a second time gives deeper color. Tip: Set aside and allow to DRY before creating layout.

Cut the following pieces:

(2) 2″ x 11.5″ pieces of Honey cardstock

2.5″ x 5″ and 2.5″ x 10″ pieces of Stripe paper, tear one short end on each piece.

0.5″ x 5″ and 0.5″ x 9″ pieces of Medicine Label paper.  Tip: This is the reverse side of the Black print paper.  Cut these pieces after cutting the bracketed shape on the Cricut.  There’s enough on the edges.  Trim the rest and keep for other layouts or cards.

Using a Foam Tool and Black ink, distress the edges of all pieces of paper and the photos.

Using Autumn Terracotta ink and the Hexagon stamp, create your own pattern on the Honey cardstock strips.  Tip: Always “season” your stamps by inking and stamping out on scrap paper to get a clean impression.  I find cleaning my stamp first helps.

Assemble layout as shown.

Using Black ink and the Cat stamp, stamp to the left of the bracketed square.  Stamp the sentiment near the cat.  Here’s a close up so you can see the finished sueding technique and stamping.

Using the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge, create the title using the Font Layer letters.  I set the size to 3.5″.  Back the open circles with scraps of the reverse side of the Sunset tree print which is a lovely White Lace type print.

Now “hop” on over to my friend {Beth} to see what she’s created.

Thanks so much for doing a scrapbook page with this stamp set. Of the 50ish stampers in this blog hop, you were the only one I found who did a layout. NOW I’m inspired to use this stamp set!
