CTMH May SOTM Blog Hop & Tutorial
By Helen | April 30, 2011
Things here have been crazy busy. There’s so much for me to tell you about…just going to have to do it in a few different blog posts! Stay tuned about the new campaign – can you believe it…50% off the new consultant kit! Then…there’s the You & Me Kit – absolutely adorable. And…I’m heading out to the Studio J Boot Camp that CTMH is running…I can’t wait to share with you what I learned.
CTMH’s May Stamp of the Month: D1456 Chairs to You is a really fun and different kind of stamp set. The outline images can be colored with a variety of techniques, left as outlines, or embossed. I can see any of the chairs with fabric being stamped on patterned paper to give them a “fabric” look.
Grab a cup of your favorite beverage, sit back and join us on a journey of amazing things you can do with this stamp set. There are almost 60 CTMH Consultants joining in on the fun…that’s a LOT of ideas that YOU can take and duplicate with this fun stamp set. If you arrived here from Debbie’s blog you’re on the right path.

Tutorial
Using Cocoa ink, stamp the more ornate dining chair, the one with the arms to the far right of a Colonial White strip. Stamp the ladder-back chairs to the left and right to fill the strip.
Using the Honey Watercolor Pencil, place color where you want your sun source. Tip: Always think the way the sun hits an object and how it reacts. With a wooden chair, the sun may cause a reflection that can be more yellow in nature.
Using the Autumn Terracotta Watercolor Pencil next, continue to add color across the chair. Then, using the Brown Bag Watercolor Pencil, finish off the coloring. Tip: You don’t have to color precisely, as we’ll be using the Blending Pen and that will “move” the color.
Using the Blending Pen, go over the Watercolor Pencils to fill out the coloring and blend the color together. Tip: If needed, you can always go back in and add more color in places where you need it.
One of the beauties with CTMH’s Acrylix Stamps is that they are clear…so, you can stamp them exactly where you want…and you can see through them to see what design is underneath. This really came in handy when stamping the upholstery for the ornate chair. Using Cocoa ink and a piece of the flowered grid paper from Mayberry, stamp the ornate chair. Cut out the arm and seat cushions. Tip: If you apply adhesive to the back of the areas you’re going to cut out, they will be ready to place as soon as you’re done cutting! You won’t have to try to put adhesive on these pieces…nor will they blow away.
Attach the arm and seat cushions. Using the Olive Watercolor Pencil and the Blending Pen color in the open areas of the ornate chair.
Locate the following two borders in the Kraft Color-Ready Borders. Using a Foam Tool and Cocoa ink sponge them both. The photo shows the top one fully colored and the bottom one as it comes out of the package. Tip: To really fill up your Foam Tool with ink…SWIPE IT on the ink pad, from one end to the other. If you tap the Foam Tool on the ink pad, it picks up some ink which is good for light distressing. In other words…different ways of inking the tool provide different looks! It’s fun to experiment!
Attach the two scallop strips to the bottom of a piece of Smoothie cardstock. I love how the scallops worked perfectly for this 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card. Attach the chair panel abutting the bottom edge along the top of the larger scallop piece. Trim the Smoothie cardstock roughly 1/4″ from the edge.
Cover the card front with a piece of the striped paper from the Mayberry Level 2 Paper Pack. Attach the completed image panel. Stamp the sentiment on a scrap of the flowered paper. Add a wooden button with waxy flax and voila!
Now “hop” on over to my friend {Kathleen} to see what she’s created.

One of the things I love about being a CTMH Consultant is the ability to make a difference in the life of a child. For just $240 Operation Smile provides life changing clef palette and clef lip surgeries. A portion of every CTMH stamp set sold goes to Operation Smile. Imgaine giving a mother the gift of her child's smile - so rewarding!

Hey Helen, Love your cards and tutorials. I am wondering how you got the pink scallop border so pink. Did you ink the white side? Thanks, Michele

Hi Michele – the pink section of the scallop border is the Smoothie cardstock that is showing through between the two inked Kraft Color-Ready Borders. I attached the thin scallop section to the bottom edge of the Smoothie cardstock, then left a space and put the thicker scalloped edge border.
