CTMH: June SOTM Blog Hop & Tutorial

By Helen | May 31, 2012

Life is Tweet S1206 is the CTMH June Stamp of the Month.  This is a whimsical stamp set that offers so many possibilities!  Friendship, birthday, anniversary, or just the images for thank you cards and so much more!

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage, sit back and be inspired by all the projects everyone has come up with.  Follow the hop to get LOT of ideas that YOU can take and duplicate with this wonderful paper pack. If you arrived here from Angela’s blog you’re on the right path.

I thought this week’s Mojo Monday sketch would be perfect for featuring the little bird.

First, I made one for my friend using the Kraft Die-Cut cards and Pemberley papers – these are her favorite colors.

Materials for Yellow & Blue Card:

Then, I played around with planned stamping - kind of like random stamping, just with a plan.  This will be a great birthday card for one of my nieces or nephews.

Materials for Multi-Colored Card:

Tutorial follows…

For those that want to skip the tutorial “hop” on over to see what {Elizabeth} has created.

If you get lost along the way…here’s the complete list of all hoppers.

Tutorial for Yellow & Blue Card

Cut the following:

  • 5.75″ x 5.75″ Outdoor Denim Cardstock
  • 5.5″ x 5.5″ Honey Flower Patterned Paper
  • 2″ x 5.5″ Large Floral Patterned Paper (or…in my case stretch a smaller piece)
  • 1″ x 2″ Honey Flower Patterned Paper
  • 1.25″ x 2.25″ Indian Corn Blue Cardstock

Using the CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge – cut the following pieces (Note: Page numbers refer to the reference book.)

  • <Circle1> at 3″ from Outdoor Denim Cardstock, page 21
  • <Circle1> at 2.75″ from Vanilla Cream Cardstock, page 21
Using a Foam Tool and Desert Sand ink, distress the edges of all cut papers and the Kraft Die-Cut card base.  Tip: To get even coverage along the scalloped edge, gently bend the edge between the scallops.  This creates a “V’ that you can ink easily!  Repeat along the entire edge.
Attach the 5.75″ x 5.75″ Outdoor Denim Cardstock centered on the Kraft Die-Cut card base front.
Attach the 5.5″ x 5.5″ Honey Flower Patterned Paper centered on top of that.
Attach the 2″ x 5.5″ Large Floral Patterned Paper 1″ in from the edge.  Tip: I didn’t have a long enough piece; however, I knew that the middle would be covered by the circles later on.  I was able to use two 2″ squares at the top and bottom…this is a great way to STRETCH paper.
Using Desert Sand Ink, stamp the Large Bird centered on the 2.75″ Vanilla Cream circle.
Create the stencil for the Large Bird.
  • Using scrap cardstock stamp the large bird twice.  Tip: Remember the inserts from the old Level 2 Paper Packs?  The ones that had the paper info printed on them?  I kept them.  These are what I prefer to use for masks and stencils.
  • On one bird, using the Craft Knife, cut out the body.
  • On the second bird, cut out only the area that you want for shading.
  • Using the whole body stencil, place the stencil over the stamped bird aligning the image.  Then, use a Foam Tool and the desired ink to lightly color in the image.  Tip: Always go LIGHTER than you think.  It’s easier to ADD more ink if the image is too light.  It’s difficult to remove ink if you’ve made it too dark.
  • Using the sectioned body stencil, add more color to the image in just that area.  Tip: You can feather out the color instead of going all the way up to the edges for a more artistic look.
Here’s what the bird looks like all finished.  Mat using the 3″ Outdoor Denim circle.
Using Outdoor Denim Ink, stamp the sentiment on the 1″ x 2″ Honey Flower Patterned Paper.  Mat using Indian Corn Blue Cardstock.
Add a small Opaque for the bird’s eye and medium Opaques along the scallop edge.

Planned Stamping Tutorial for Multi-Colored Card

For the most part, the measurements and creation of the Multi-Colored Card are the same.  What’s different is the planned stamping, the coloring of the Large Bird and the banner, so I’ll only explain those differences.

Using Lagoon Ink, stamp ONE Balloon image somewhere on a piece of White Daisy Cardstock.  Note: I chose to start in the lower left corner.

Using Cocoa Ink, stamp the Sentiment just below and to the right of the spotted balloon.

Now…decide where you want to stamp the NEXT Balloon.  I chose to put mine so the dots from the Sentiment lead into the balloon.  From there, alternate stamping the Sentiment and Balloon to fill the page.  Tip: So I don’t get confused with which stamp goes with which ink pad, I always put the stamp back NEXT to the corresponding ink pad.  Trust me, it’s a bit of work to do that, and…so WORTH IT!

Now it’s time to fill in.  Using Smoothie Ink, add the Party Hats.  Then, using Creme Brulee, add small flowers.  Tip: Whatever you do initially, repeat it over and over again.

Coloring of the Large Bird.  Use Honey Ink for the body and Smoothie ink for the sectioned body part.

Banner is 2.5″ x 2.5″ Lagoon Patterned Paper.  Making this into a banner is short work when you use the Versamart Mat.  The diagonal lines make it so easy.  Place the square centered on the Versamat with the reverse side showing.  Then, using a scrap of cardstock align that with the diagonal lines.  Use a pencil to mark the cutting lines.  Tip: You can either use scissors to cut following the lines, or the Fiskars Paper Trimmer.

Add some Lagoon Sparkles, Paradise Baker’s Twine and Voila!

Now “hop” on over to see what {Elizabeth} has created.
