CTMH Felt Embellishments – Over 160 Pieces!

By Helen | September 28, 2009

Felt embellishments are a hot trend in paper crafting.  I love that CTMH has three Idea Books in a calendar year…this enables CTMH to stay current with the trends you all LOVE!

The NEW Heartfelt(TM) Wonder Die-Cuts from CTMH are simply amazing!  Here, I used one of the birds from the Twilight sheet on a card.  A little bit of Create-A-Shade paint around the edges and the addition of a Twinkle Brad for an eye make this a fast, simple and easy card to put together.

Autumn 2009 027

When you get the package, this is what it looks like…

Autumn 2009 015

There are three 12 x 12 Sheets of felt, one in each of the three colors: Olive, Twilight and Chocolate.

To really appreciate what comes in this package, I took the time to pop each of the felt embellishment pieces out of the sheet.  I put all of the pieces onto two 12 x 12 sheets of cardstock so you can get a feel for the size of some of the felt embellishments.  For example, the large circle frame is over 11 inches wide!  These are the pieces from the Olive Sheet.  Fun swirls, trees and leaves, plus all the circles!

WOW – look at the adorable felt embellishments in the Chocolate Sheet - acorns, tree branches, mushrooms, leaves and the cutest animals!

Felt Embellishments 003

Twilight is the perfect color for these elegant snowflakes!  Graceful swirls, stars, bookplates and more.

Tips for adding PIZZAZ to your felt embellishments.

  • Add a touch of the unexpected – as in the case of the sample card, adding Create-a-Shade paint to the edges, really makes the felt image pop.
  • Embroidery floss – there are a variety of embroidery stitches that you can use to decorate the felt images such as French Knots, Blanket Stitch or a simple Running Stitch.
  • Add buttons, brads and eyelets too!
  • Add ribbons – how fun would the Olive circle frame be with ribbons threaded through the punch out holes?
  • Flip the felt embellishment such that it faces the other way!  How cool – these are totally reversible.
  • Modify!  Sometimes, trimming a bit here, a bit there, or cutting an embellishment in half – gasp – yes, cutting it in half, can give you more options and stretch your felt embellishments further.
  • Try adding rub-ons to decorate the trees, and add a title to the bookplates.
  • Use the shapes as templates to cut the same images from a different color cardstock.

You’ll find some great artwork ideas for using the CTMH Heartfelt(TM) Wonder Die-Cuts in the Autumn/Winter 2009 Idea Book on the following pages:

  • Page 26 – Card – branch under the owl.
  • Page 26 – Notebook Layout left side (note: the Twilight shape has sawtooth edges, not scallops as shown – the one in the photo was a prototype)
  • Page 31 – Here Comes Trouble Layout – this also uses the CTMH Heartfelt(TM) Whimsy Die-Cuts which come in Buttercup, Tulip and Garden Green.  The flowers, stems, bow and hearts are from that package.
  • Page 41 – A Winter Adventure Layout – the bracket brings your eye and attention to the people in the large photo.  The centers of the snowflakes have bigger brads added.  Tip: To see the details more closely, view the Idea Book online, then use the magnifier to zoom in…then you can see that the edges of the snowflakes & bracket were edged with Colonial White ink.
  • Page 56 – Cards – here’s a case where modifying the images helps you to create a new bird.
  • Page 57 – Pure Joy in Floriday Layout – mix & match the pieces together with stamping for a whole new lool.
  • Page 84 – Practiced All December Layout – the large Chocolate frame is accented with punched Olive circles.  The felt trees are all decked out using Rub-Ons!
