CTMH New Product Blog Hop
By Helen | August 5, 2012
Grab your favorite beverage…AND….a note pad & pen….so you can make your WISH LIST! I’m sure you’re going to see LOTS of things done with the new Cricut Artiste Cartridge Note: I opted not to focus on that just yet, as I want you to get that August 1tth when you can get the Cricut Artiste Cartridge, the National Stamping Month double D stamp set AND the Stamp of the Month! If you’ve arrived here from Krista’s blog, you’re on the right track.
I chose to focus on the new Make It From Your Heart Volume 1 pattern book. This soft-cover pattern book includes:
- 2-page Scrapbook Layouts
- Cards
- Single Scrapbook Page Designs
Using Pattern 01 on page 6, I used the Avonlea papers left after making the Avonlea Workshop Kit layouts and adding in a few other fabulous new products, the Satin Slate Polka Dot Ribbon, Brocade Assortment and the stunning Black & Grey Sparkles.
While I’m talking about Avonlea, I want to mention something NEW that CTMH is doing – using pops of color in things like the paper pack, complements and embellishments. When you look in the Idea Book or at the Zip Strip, you’ll see things like Avonlea Green, Avonlea Off-White and Avonlea Teal. These are the pops of color - think of these as trendy, current color that adds interest. You’ll find these colors as cardstock only in the paper pack, not as separate cardstock. You’ll also find these colors used throughout the patterned papers in that paper pack. Plus, as accents in the Avonlea Complements Canvas Shapes and the Brocade Assortment (the embellishment for Avonlea).
You may say…what INK am I going to use? CTMH will always make sure that a core color will be used, in this case Chocolate and Slate – such that you’ll have a “go-to” color for stamping, distressing, and for adding in more cardstock to stretch your paper pack!
Let’s look at some of the details so you can see the pops of color. The key is part of the Brocade Assortment and is self-adhesive! LOVE that!
The Avonlea Complements Canvas Shapes have just the right amount of texture & design to coordinate with the papers. The silver flower is another element from the Brocade Assortment. The photo just doesn’t do the Black & Grey Sparkles justice, the color is rich & oh, so pretty.
And…one more ribbon detail with another Brocade Assortment element.

Tutorial
Cut the papers using Pattern 01 on page 6 of the Make It From Your Heart, Vol. 1.
Using the Foam Tool and Slate ink, distress the edges of all papers.
For the pleated ribbon detail – run a few strips of adhesive on the back edge. I also ran adhesive down the back of the ribbon (toward one side), this helped hold the pleats as I was pleating it. Tip: I like to tuck the raw edge back under so you don’t see it.
Tip: I backed my 7″ x 5″ photo with cardstock to support it since I was going to be popping it up.
Here’s what it looks like finished…
For the ribbon detail on the right page, cut the ribbon to overlap the patterned paper, and to wrap to the back of the layout. Figure out where you want to place the Brocade flower, then run strips of adhesive on the back of the Slate Satin Polka-Dot Ribbon (may be hard to see in the photo). Tip: I secured the ribbon to the back of the layout to figure out where to pinch pleat it.
Pinch the ribbon together so the adhesive sticks to itself.

Although the Brocade Assortment elements are self-adhesive, I was adhering the large one on top of the ribbon. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to go anywhere. To keep it in place, I added a few small strips of 3D Foam Tape that are strategically placed to be to either side of the pinch pleats and to secure to the cardstock base. Cut the end. Tip: Fold the ribbon in half width-wise and cut from the FOLD to the outer points to get the V-shape
Voila – my finished layout…ok, not totally finished, going to give this to my brother-in-law and his wife and let them add the journaling on the right hand page.
Now “hop” on over to see what {Kathleen} has created.

One of the things I love about being a CTMH Consultant is the ability to make a difference in the life of a child. For just $240 Operation Smile provides life changing clef palette and clef lip surgeries. A portion of every CTMH stamp set sold goes to Operation Smile. Imgaine giving a mother the gift of her child's smile - so rewarding!
