CTMH July SOTM Blog Hop & Tutorial

By Helen | June 30, 2011

CTMH’s July Stamp of the Month: D1458 American Celebration is a wonderful set of patriotic stamps perfect for creating invitations, decorations and of course scrapbook layouts of your 4th of July celebrations. Note: The Canadian version of this stamp set includes a Canadian Flag and the word Canada.  How cool is that…that CTMH customizes the stamp set for the country it’s sold in!

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage, sit back and join us on a journey of amazing things you can do with this stamp set. There are almost 60 CTMH Consultants joining in on the fun…that’s a LOT of ideas that YOU can take and duplicate with this fun stamp set. If you arrived here from Judy’s blog you’re on the right path.

I loved playing with this set, so much so that over the next few days I’ll be sharing some more ideas using these amazing stamps.  Here’s a fun card idea.

Materials:

Tutorial follows…

For those that want to skip the tutorial “hop” on over to my friend {Kathleen} to see what she’s created.

If you get lost along the way…here’s the complete list of all hoppers.

Tutorial

Attach a strip of the Cranberry Circles paper 1″ wide to the far left edge of a top folded White Daisy card base.

Attach a strip of Stripe paper 1.5″ wide, reverse side used, butting the edges together.

Sand the edges of a Sky panel measuring 4.5″ x 3.75″.  Attach a 3.75″ x 3″ piece of Black Cross paper, reverse side used, centered on the Sky panel.  Wrap a piece of White Daisy Grosgrain Ribbon around the front of the panel.  Tip: Apply adhesive to the reverse of the Sky panel where you want to attach the ribbon.  Start at the back of one side, go across the front and wrap to the back…now cut your ribbon.  By cutting after you measure, you only use the amount of ribbon you need.

Attach the ribbon wrapped panel to the center of the card.

While you could use the masking technique…I know that anytime I’m using the flag stamp, I’ll be making the field blue and the stripes red.  Thus…I cut my stamp.  Tip: Use very sharp scissors and cut carefully in the valleys between the raised image.  Make sure to clean up any stray pieces. Note: Always TEST all of the stamps in the set BEFORE cutting any.  If there’s a defect, get it replaced before cutting any stamps.

Stamp the field in Pacifica and the stripes in Cranberry.  Cut out.  Now, using the handle of your micro-tip scissors, run the paper across to make the paper flexible…think curling ribbon.  Do this a few times across the front and the back of the piece.  Tip: Set the stamped image aside to dry fully before curling, this will prevent any stray marks from ink that’s still wet.

Use 3D Foam Tape to keep the shape.  I put two layers of the thicker 3D Foam Tape under the star area and a strip of the thinner 3D Foam Tape along the right edge.  Then apply regular adhesive to the middle.  Attach to the lower left of the center panel.

Place the “Let Freedom Ring” sentiment on a block in an arcing fashion.  Tip: I find if I use a punched circle as a guide, it’s easier.

Punch a 2″ scallop from White Daisy cardstock.  Stamp the sentiment in Pacifica ink twice.  Stamp one of the fireworks in the middle using Cranberry ink.  Attach with 3D Foam Tape to the right of the flag.

On scraps of White Daisy cardstock, stamp the stars from the firework tail.  Tip: You only need pieces as large as the star you’re going to use…there’s no need to have a piece large enough for the whole stamp image.

Cut out three of the stars and attach.

Add Sparkles to the middle of each star and the middle of the firework.  Tip: Using the Piercing Tool is a simple way to pick up the Sparkles and to get them placed.  Make sure you get under the glue dot on the back of the Sparkles when you are picking them up.

Now “hop” on over to my friend {Kathleen} to see what she’s created.

    Helen -

I love the dimension you gave to the flag. I think I’ll follow your lead and cut my flag stamp as well – so much easier!

Love how you did the flag. I’ve often been tempted to “cut” my stamps, but always chicken out, but it definitely makes sense on the flag. I also really like how the ribbon bow looks on the button.
