Tutorial: Shaker Box and Majestic Blue Page Elements

By Helen | July 29, 2009

Shaker Boxes are so much fun!  They can be used on greeting cards, scrapbook layouts and for 3D projects such as the Memory Keeper Box or 3D Cube.

You start with the background of the shaker box.  This is what will be framed inside the window.  I chose the sentiment from the Footprints stamp set.  I stamped it in Desert Sand ink, then cut it out leaving an extra 1/4 to 1/2 inch on all side.

I used the Sea Sponge Texture Tool to add Desert Sand ink to soften the Colonial White paper.  To make this into a shaker box, I used the 3D Foam Tape strips to form a frame around the image, making sure the corners are snug.

For the clear window, I cut a piece from a page protector.  These are nice and sturdy.  I peeled the protective backing off two sides and positioned the clear window to line up in the corner.  Now to add the “filler” for the shaker box.  In my case, I used “fake sand.”  Note that I leave the protective baking on the other pieces of foam tape so that the filler material doesn’t stick to it!

After adding the fake sand, I pulled off the remaining protective backing and secured the window.

Now…to decorate the top and finish it off.  I cut a piece of blue patterned paper and cut an opening out of the middle.  I added a strip of torn Colonial White cardstock to the inside bottom, to look like the sand.  After covering the top of the shaker box, I mounted the whole thing onto a larger mat.  Then added a stamped and cut out image of a starfish to finish it off.

This is one of the Majestic Blue Page Elements – let’s take a look at the rest…

The photo frame is done with torn Colonial White that the edges have been sponged with Desert Sand ink.  Shown here with an embellishment and the journaling spot.

Hope these inspire you to play & make your own Shaker Box and set of Page Elements!
