Tutorial: Tying a Bow
By Helen | June 6, 2009
Here’s a tutorial for fast, simple, easy bows. This style of bow is often referred to as a bunny ear bow.
I like working with the ribbon left attached to the spool. I find this saves me ribbon. If the tail not attached to the spool is too long, I can quickly untie and retie the bow.
Note: I’m right handed, so I’m going to give all directions based on that.
Make a loop (a bunny ear) in your left hand.

Now, pull up a second loop in your right hand, leaving a tiny “smile” of ribbon between the two loops…you’ll need that for being able to tie the bow.
You’re now going to tie the two loops in a knot. I take the left loop and wrap it around the right loop and come up through the “smile” at the bottom (that’s the loop you see in the photo).
Pull the loop through the “smile.”
Voila – a bow…oh, yes, it’s upside down – that’s the way this works…just flip it over. The best part of making the bow this way, you can adjust the length of the loops & tails, then finally cut the bow off the spool.
I used the bow on this card:
I used CTMH’s D1333 Wishing Star Stamp Set for the stars and the sentiment and the papers are from the Stardust Paper Pack. Here’s another card, where I just folded the ribbon in half and tucked it under one of the stars:
And here you can see the ribbon used under the stars on the left hand layout and also on the right hand layout…it looks like it’s holding the journaling frame.

One of the things I love about being a CTMH Consultant is the ability to make a difference in the life of a child. For just $240 Operation Smile provides life changing clef palette and clef lip surgeries. A portion of every CTMH stamp set sold goes to Operation Smile. Imgaine giving a mother the gift of her child's smile - so rewarding!
